Environmental Sustainability
Everything we do and stand for is to positively impact the environment and local communities.
Huge thank you to RO Group who have generously provided us with much help across the board and in this instance specifically Ana Bajri, their inhouse Sustainability expert for her training and guidance in all things relating to our sustainability.
Rescuing furniture from landfill
We save on average 300kg of furniture from going to landfill sites every week and approx. 500kg of fabrics and materials monthly. Over a one year period this is over 20,000kg saved from landfill and importantly it is reused and repurposed bringing joy to communities and creating awareness about environmental issues.
LED lighting
In March 2022, 100% of our lighting was converted to LED, we have since reduced our consumption by over 30%.
Green energy (Gas and Electric)
In September and December of 2023 we negotiated new100% green electric and gas supply contracts.
Zero to landfill
We have had a rigid zero to landfill policy since our inception in 2012, only collecting or accepting items we can work with, or in some instances passing on to people in the community (and other charities), that want and will benefit from them.
Workshop waste
The waste removal contractors empty our wheely bin weekly and their policy is to recycle 100% of our waste. On average we have only 10kg of workshop waste collected each week.
Low emission vehicles
Our people carrier and new van both conform to ULEZ low emissions. The people carrier was purchased in 2019 and the van in 2022.
Circular economy
We schedule combined multiple delivery and collections, since starting this in 2019 we have reduced van mileage from over 5K miles per year down to less than 3K miles per year.
We have streamlined our procurement and order in bulk, often a years supply of products at a time when finances permit.
Printed materials
Marketing and promotional literature is now circulated electronically with minimal quantities printed on paper. We pay a small premium for any paper we purchase to ensure it is either forest friendly and sustainable or 100% recycled. Since 2021 we have drastically reduced our inhouse and outsourced printing by over 50% compared to previous years.
Paints, Prep and finishing products
The paint we use (Fusion Mineral Paint) is 100% VOC and is water based with natural mineral colour pigments, similarly 90% of the prep and finishing products are water based and free of toxins. Recover is also a UK stockist of these ‘Fusion Mineral Paints’ which are sold directly from the workshop. This enables us to educate and influence customers at the point of sale about the importance of using totally eco-friendly paints for their own projects.
Our Fusion Mineral Paints, preps and finishes display, 100% VOC, including the recyclable pots and lids. All displayed in an Eighteenth-century reclaimed pine Welsh dresser.
